Tech firm starts in Springfield

Renaissance Services Inc., a high-technology services startup, is taking root in Springfield with a pair of familiar faces at the helm.

Dan Sokol and Robert Morris founded the company, which is locating in downtown Springfield and is targeting aerospace and defense parts manufacturers. Sokol founded and was chief executive officer of Cohesia Corp., a software company with offices in Dayton and Cincinnati. Morris was chief of industrial base and technology for the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Renaissance has begun with five employees and plans to add 15 more technical and engineering jobs by 2005. The company, which will be located at 1 S. Limestone St. in Springfield, aims to help manufacturers "quickly and accurately meet the requirements of complex parts."

Among organizations that appeal to Renaissance as potential clients are Wright-Patt here and Battelle, the Edison Welding Institute and Ohio State University in Columbus. "Downtown Springfield was appealing because of its central location in the emerging technology corridor between Dayton and Columbus," Morris said. "(This) gives us greater access to the skilled workforce pool located between Dayton and Columbus."

Other high-tech companies that have moved to Springfield recently include LexisNexis, which is locating its new data center there, and the Ohio Supercomputer Center.
