6 Secrets for Unlocking Value from AS9100 Standards

While the AS9100 standards have led to improved quality and added much-needed consistency at the macro level, prime contractors and OEMs tend to tailor the standards’ requirements to meet their specific needs.  Thus, the leading aerospace companies have had to take approaches that enable them to properly address the requirements for First Article Inspection and Statistical Process Control in a manner that provides the greatest benefit.

Design for Six Sigma

Integration of design intent with process capability is fundamental to quality, productivity, and ultimately — affordability. Inability to achieve such integration during product development means costly and protracted production transition, quality escapes, even system failures. This white paper discusses a system for real-time, quantitative information that links design requirements to the manufacturing processes that must deliver those requirements — starting early in product development, progressing over the development process lifecycle, providing continuous understanding of product maturity.

e-LINCS and the Impact of Quality Escapes in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

Quality escapes are really nothing more than an inability to manage the details. Often, the root causes of numerous escapes can be found in the flow and interpretation of technical requirements. This white paper discusses the Electronic Industry-wide Network for Characteristics & Specifications(e-LINCS) program. Launched by the Air Force Research Laboratories Manufacturing Technology Division, e-LINCS very specific purpose is to “establish and implement universally accessible tools for the flow of detailed technical requirements to every level of the aerospace & defense supply chain.”
