Renaissance Services is the systems integrator for an Air Force program known as Visualization & Inspection to Validate Integrated Data (VIVID). The contract is managed by General Dynamics Information Technology and the principal aerospace manufacturing participant is PCC Airfoils.

The VIVID focus is integrating investment casting inspection data (e.g., grain, ultrasonic, x-ray, and fluorescent penetrant) with upstream engineering and manufacturing information.

There are many benefits to unifying and visualizing inspection results, including the creation of as-built geometric representations of each component produced. In addition, it is expected that integration and visualization can provide quantitative real-time feedback (e.g., statistical quality control) for foundry operations.

Achieving the quantification required to generate as-built geometric models requires a transition away from 2D drawings and attribute data towards the model based enterprise and rich spatial representations.

The VIVID project team is currently involved in defining and developing a limited prototype and pilot of the system. Check back on this web site frequently to stay abreast of the progress, or feel free to contact Renaissance to learn more about the VIVID project.
