More than 35 years later, the post-mortem on one of the country’s worst engineering disasters appears to be simple. A contractor asked for a change in an original design. The change was approved by engineers, later resulting in a mammoth structural collapse that killed 114 people and injured 216 more.

Renaissance Services VIVID program provides the ability to link non-destructive evaluation (NDE) data with upstream manufacturing and design processes. By systematically converting manufacturing and inspection data into knowledge, the VIVID tools enable more informed decisions regarding the relationship between design requirements and process capability.

The VIVID program is at the forefront of digital thread application, establishing:

  • As built inspection results through a “3-D layered model”
  • Digital tools that identify and proactively address manufacturing cause & effects

By utilizing VIVID, engineers could avoid mistakes which lead to disasters.
